Armenia and Germany sign intergovernmental agreement to avoid double taxation
On June 29, Edward Nalbandian, Foreign Minister of Armenia, met in Yerevan with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Foreign Minister of Germany and the OSCE Chairperson-in-office.
The meeting started in a tete-a-tete format, and proceeded in the extended format with the participation of delegations.
The two ministers signed an Agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Republic of Germany on Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and Capital.
The meeting was followed by the joint press conference of Foreign Ministers Nalbandian and Steinmeier.
“Our meeting provided a good opportunity to discuss the perspectives of the development of the Armenian-German multilayer relationship. We expressed mutual satisfaction with the dynamic development of bilateral cooperation, which stems from the mutual aspiration to further develop and deepen relations between the two friendly countries,” Nalbandian said at the press conference. He recalled that about 60 agreements have been signed between the countries, and this number increased by another significant document – Agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Republic of Germany on Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and Capital.
“We highly appreciate the role that the bilateral high-level visits play in the enhancement of cooperation between Armenia and Germany,” Nalbandian said adding that together with his counterpart, they attached importance to regular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, strengthening of cooperation within international organizations.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in turn, said that the cooperation between the two countries actively develops, with the number of the Armenian students studying in Germany growing year by year. The German minister said they welcome the reforms in Armenia and hope the next elections will be free and transparent.
As for the relations with the EU, Steinmeier said Armenia has close relations with Russia, but it can increase its relations with the EU at the same level. The German minister is sure that integration projects should not be opposed and the country can establish an effective cooperation with both the unions.
